Head injury is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes. Helmet use can prevent 85% of cyclists' head injuries.

Collisions with motor vehicles account for an estimated 90% of all bicycle-related deaths and 10% of all nonfatal bicycle-related injuries.

Tips for Safe Bike Riding:

1. Check your brakes, tire pressure, & chain before you start.
2. Properly put your helmet on - never ride without one.
3. Be visible. Wear light and bright colors during the day. Use lights, reflectors, and white clothing when it is dark or dusk.
4. Ride on the right side of the street. Children under age 9 should not ride their bikes in the street.
5. Always stop and look left-right-left before entering the road.
6. Obey all traffic signs and signals.
7. Do not weave in and out of parked cars.
8. Ride single file.
9. When preparing to turn left or make a sudden move, always look behind you and yielt to traffic.
10. Always use hand signals.
