Facts:
- Bicycles are associated with more childhood injuries than any other consumer product except the automobile.
- Head injury is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes. Helmet use can prevent 85% of cyclists' head injuries.
- Collisions with motor vehicles account for an estimated 90% of all bicycle-related deaths and 10% of all nonfatal bicycle-related injuries.

Tips for Safe Bike Riding:
- Check your brakes, tire pressure, & chain before you start.
- Properly put your helmet on - never ride without one.
- Be visible. Wear light and bright colors during the day. Use lights, reflectors, and white clothing when it is dark or dusk.
- Ride on the right side of the street. Children under age 9 should not ride their bikes in the street.
- Always stop and look left-right-left before entering the road.
- Obey all traffic signs and signals.
- Do not weave in and out of parked cars.
- Ride single file.
- When preparing to turn left or make a sudden move, always look behind you and yield to traffic.
- Always use hand signals.
